The Top 5 Ways to Add Pops of Color to Your Bathroom

by Columbus Bath Design |January 15, 2022 |0 Comments | Bathroom Design, Decoration | ,

Your bathroom is your sanctuary, so you should feel comfortable styling it to meet your personal preferences. Even though neutral tones are usually the go-to choice when it comes to the bathrooms, there are ways you can add color as well.

If you work with the team from Columbus Bath Design, you will have access to a wide variety of color and design options. View our gallery for examples of our work. If you are interested in adding more color to your bathroom, what are a few tips you may want to follow? Take a look at the list below, and reach out to our professionals who can help you!

1. Think About Including an Accent Wall

White Bathroom with Blue tile Contrast with Gold Accent Pieces

One way you can add more color to your bathroom is to include an accent wall. An accent wall is a small area of your bathroom where you include a few splashes of color here and there. If you don’t want to add an entire wall of color to your bathroom, try picking one of your walls to be a showpiece. Ideally, you should pick one that is directly across from the door.

Then, think about the colors you want to include. Even though the majority of the wall is still going to be a neutral color, you can include blue, green, purple, or red. You might even want to include several items placed against the accent wall that match the color before use! This is a great way for you to add more color to your bathroom!

2. Use the Vanity To Bring in a New Shade to the Bathroom

Next, you may want to use the vanity to introduce a splash of color to the bathroom. The vanity is going to be the centerpiece of your bathroom. Therefore, this is a great opportunity for you to introduce some more color to your space.

There are several ways you can use the vanity to add more color to your bathroom. For example, you may want to use colorful base cabinets for larger vanities. This can also add some extra cabinet space for your bathroom. If your bathroom is a bit smaller, then you may want to use color countertops that can add a bit of color without overwhelming the entire space.

Because there are many options for vanities, you should work with professionals who have connections in the industry. That way, you can figure out exactly how you can use your vanity to add a bit more color to your bathroom.

3. Consider the Fabrics in the Bathroom

If you don’t want to completely change the color scheme in your bathroom, then you may want to target your fabrics. For example, you may want to use colorful towels to introduce color to your bathroom. This could include bath towels or hand towels.

You might also have a runner or an area rug in your bathroom. This is another way for you to introduce more color to your space. You may want to pair this with a few extra items placed on top of the vanity. This is a way for you to balance the color scheme in your bathroom, breathing a bit more life into a space that is usually dominated by neutral tones.

4. Consider Hanging Some Wall Art in the Bathroom

One option that is commonly overlooked when adding color to the bathroom is wall art. There is probably a lot of open space in the bathroom, particularly if you have walls that have neutral tones. This is a great opportunity for you to introduce some color to your bathroom by selecting wall art.

If you place your wall art in a strategic location, this is a great way for you to add a pop of color. Make sure you consider the moisture of the bathroom though before you hang anything up. You need to select something that is water-resistant, or you will need to add a frame for some added protection. Otherwise, your wall art is going to get damaged.

5. Add Flowers and Plants to the Bathroom

If you want to add color to your bathroom, then you should ask nature for some help. For example, you may want to bring in a few fresh houseplants to the bathroom. This is a great way for you to keep the bathroom smelling fresh while also adding a bit more green to the room.

Your bathroom is going to be one of the most commonly trafficked areas at the house. Therefore, you need to take steps to reduce indoor air pollution by adding some houseplants. They can remove moisture and bacteria from your bathroom while also increasing oxygen levels. This is important for keeping your bathroom as clean as possible.

Keep in mind that your bathroom is going to be very humid. Therefore, you have to find houseplants that are able to stand up to these conditions. If you have questions about the types of houseplants you should use in your bathroom, you may want to reach out to a plant professional who can help you.

Simple Holiday Decor Tips

by Columbus Bath Design |November 22, 2019 |0 Comments | Bathroom Design, Decoration | ,

holiday decorIt’s that time of year when everybody wants to breathe a little holiday decor into their home. The good news is that you can do this with just a few simple tips and tricks. You don’t have to spend a ton of time or money to give your house that warm and cozy holiday feeling. Here are a few simple tips to get you started.

Choose a Holiday Decor Theme

To help you narrow down on decorations, choose a theme that you love. Not only will this give your home more flow, but it’ll make the decorating process a little less hectic. Consider what you love most about the holiday season and then incorporate that into each and every room.

Remove Unnecessary Items

Sometimes, people try to decorate around their normal everyday décor. However, you may need to pack it up for a couple of months to make room for your seasonal items. If you try to decorate around the existing décor, it may end up looking and feeling unorganized or cluttered.

Go Outside of Red and Green

Red and green are certainly holiday decor favorites, but don’t be afraid to play up your space with other colors. This time of year can easily incorporate other color schemes such as blue and silver or even loud, vibrant colors. Choose colors that suit your personality and help you get into the holiday spirit.

Don’t Forget Candy

Candy is one of the easiest (and most delicious!) ways to incorporate holiday decor into the season. You can fill various holiday bowls with your favorite treats or use candy to make arts and crafts you can display. Candy canes are always a holiday favorite for many people.

Play Music

Holiday music can bring it all together! If you’re having a gathering, don’t underestimate the benefits of a quality holiday song. Choose a few of your favorites and play them quietly in the background at your next social gathering.

Add a Wreath

A wreath is the first thing that people will see as they approach your home. The wreath can be a simple store-bought one, or if you’re the creative type, then you can make your own! Use pops of holiday colors to bring it all together. You can focus just on weaving in green and red, or you choose your favorite holiday character. Try to stick to a theme that matches the décor inside.

holiday decoratingUse What You have

You don’t necessarily need to buy new holiday décor every single year. Instead, choose a theme and add to it periodically. You may also have everyday items that can be pulled out and put on display. For instance, the red mixing bowl that your grandmother gave you may now be a festive candy bowl that you can leave out during the holiday season.

Focus on Your Fireplace

The fireplace is a great focal point of any room. You can add poinsettias and sprigs of greenery to the mantle for a quick holiday pick-me-up. The fireplace is also a great area to display your favorite holiday knick-knacks for everybody to see and enjoy.

Don’t Forget the Pine Cones

Pine cones are an excellent addition to any holiday decor scheme. It’s an easy way to incorporate a bit of nature without overwhelming the space. You could add a few to your holiday wreath or just place them in a decorative bowl. It’s really that simple!

Add in Fragrances

Be mindful of the fragrances you use this time of year. Choose scents such as pine, cinnamon, or clove to help create the ambiance you are looking for.

It’s All About the Lighting

Don’t forget to add a little something to your light fixtures! This is an excellent opportunity to incorporate garland and holly in a subtle yet effective way.

Decorate Your Mailbox

While the mailbox isn’t inside the home, it certainly adds to the overall feel of it. Add a bit of garland or even a string of lights to your mailbox to bring a little more holiday cheer to the outside of your home.

Keep Your Holiday Decor Simple

You don’t have to go overboard with holiday decor. Instead, keep it simple by incorporating a few holiday-inspired touches throughout your space. Reuse, recycle and revamp as many products as you can to save some valuable time and money.

How a Remodel Can Help

The holidays mean that your home is likely to have a lot of company. This may be the perfect time to consider a remodel of the space that gets frequented the most: the bathroom. Adding a little more storage space or updating the look will go one step further in making the most of your holiday décor.

Getting Your Bathroom Ready for Back to School

by Columbus Bath Design |September 13, 2019 |0 Comments | Bathroom Design, Decoration | ,

bathroom organizationGoing back to school can be a stressful time. There’s so much to prepare in all of your family’s life, like new clothes and school supplies. Your bathroom should remain your oasis of peace in the evenings, and the clean, fresh awakening in the mornings to get your kids up and out! So we’ve compiled our top tips for getting your bathroom ready for back to school time, making the space feel bigger and better organized, and making it easier to manage multiple people in and out in the mornings.

I’ve got so many other things on my plate… how can I start getting my bathroom ready over the summer?

Over the summer, the first thing you can do is clear out anything old or unused from your bathroom — and all over your house! Getting old items out of your hair is the first step to a more stress-free lifestyle, opening up your time from finding things and stressing, to worrying about the more important things in life, like encouraging your children in their schoolwork! Homework, papers, coats, and backpacks might pile up, but make sure you have designated laundry baskets in the bathroom so everyone knows where their items go — whether it be sweaty sports clothes or used towels. This will help you when you’re cleaning and doing the laundry, and will help keep your bathroom clean and tidy throughout the year.

Everything should always have its own place, and everyone should know where that designated place is, meaning that the whole family can help you keep on top of everything. The kids can even have their own designated baskets, toothbrush holders, towels, etc. to help encourage them to learn how to tidy, and keep this habit up throughout the school year! This means it will be quicker to get ready with the kids in the mornings too, as you’ll never have to spend time looking for things, and they’ll be able to find and use their own stuff easily when they’re older.

Get a wicker basket or storage space to hold books to read to your kids in the bath. If you read to or with your children throughout the summer, it will help get them ready for going back to school. Awaken their imagination, and teach them new vocabulary! Kids whose parents read to them are far more likely to succeed in school; bath time might be just the time to do it – if they’re not too excited!

When the craziness of school starts, it’s nice to plan some family time — if they’re young enough, a bath together could do the trick. Some games to play in the bath which are educational are useful too, or invent some games with the toys they already have! Toys could be stored in the bathroom in a bag, so your child can keep it in their room. That way they won’t be distracted with things that remind them of playtime when they’re getting ready for school in the bathroom.

How do I learn from the past when organizing my bathroom for back to school time?

Whenever you’re designing or re-thinking the layout of a room, it’s essential that you think of how you and your family members use it at different times during the week and year. Remember how you felt at back to school time last year, and let it influence your decisions. Did you all crowd around each other last year, stressed out in the mornings, trying to find something? If so, maybe think about clearly labeling your boxes or storage containers with labels in an attractive font.

Maybe getting ready for back to school last year was a really stressful time for you. Remember to take time for yourself and relax. A simple, chic, well-designed bathroom will help you to switch off and recharge your batteries. Make sure you’ve planned in all your appointments, after school meetings, parents’ evenings, clubs and hobbies on a calendar, so you know you have a solid plan for the future. And then relax!

organize bathroomAnd how can I create more bathroom storage to keep our bathroom stress free throughout the year?

For a family bathroom, it’s recommended to get large multipurpose cabinets, as your bathroom has to do so many things for so many people. However, if you’ve already designed your bathroom, and you’re looking to diversify your storage options, there are many extra things you can add to your bathroom to better utilize the space. Think about investing in drawer dividers, extra storage, such as wall or corner shelves, and extra hooks on the walls – maybe one for each member of the family!

So now I have more space, how do I get more of what I really need… time?!

If you’re struggling to fit everyone in the bathroom in the morning, work out a schedule, so everyone gets enough time before you all have to leave. Instead of a stressed, last-minute morning, have a planned, relaxed, fun one! Layout the breakfast table before you sleep, make sure everyone’s towel and supplies are ready in the bathroom, make sure your children’s clothes are clean and laid out in their bedroom to come back to after their morning wash.

How To Decorate Your Bathroom For Spring

by Columbus Bath Design |April 25, 2019 |2 Comments | Decoration | ,

Decorating does wonders for the mind and soul. Sometimes just seeing the decorations that you put time and effort into is just what you need to turn your day around. Why limit it to just the front of your house? You spend most of the time inside, so why not add the flavor of the season indoors for you and your guests to enjoy?

It can be hard to know where to start if you haven’t taken on projects like this before. That’s probably why you’re online looking for some ideas! Well, let’s not wait around anymore, Spring has sprung and it’s time to give your bathroom that touch of warmth and growth as well.

Where To Start?

Check the condition of your bathroom first. If your spring cleaning hasn’t hit your bathroom yet, then it may be time to start scrubbing. Also, be sure to check if everything is working correctly, or if it’s starting to wear down. Maybe it’s time to fix that squealing sound your showerhead makes? Regardless, if you don’t regularly keep up with cleaning and maintaining your bathroom, then your decorations become a fresh coat of paint on a broken car.

I know it might be hard to get into or seem like way too much to handle right now, but trust us– you got this! Start to separate certain parts of the bathroom into sections such as bath, shower, counters, floor, lights, mirror. This way you will know where to start, and you can take them on one at a time. Starting here is an important step because it sets the foundation for future decorating.

How Can You Get Creative?

Take some time, and start to create a vision board for what you’d like your bathroom to look like. Get some magazines, or if you prefer to make a Pinterest board, and start collecting ideas that speak to you. Take some time before you do this step to clear your head the best way you know how. This could be meditation, mindful walking, talking, exercising, napping, stretching, etc. Whatever works best for you so that you can get into your creative space.

Step 1. Explore Your Home

Now that you have a better picture of the vision for your bathroom it’s time to explore your home for creative ways to start turning your bathroom into a Spring Explosion. Since some of the items you discovered might be outside your price range, you need to come up with some creative ways to make it at your home. Search your home for anything you can use, and make this step FUN! It’s crafting time, so why make it boring?

Step 2. Time To Shop

Anything you could not craft at home you’ll need to buy. Go as affordable as you can. Unless you want to go for luxury, then be our guest! This is also another place of discovery. You might find some new ideas you never thought about before. Be open to your ideas changing, because that’s just a part of the creative process.

Step 3. Create The Room

This is the hardest but most fun step (if you let it be!) of decorating your bathroom. You might run into corners and feel creatively drained, but just do what you need to do to clear your head and get back to it! This is where everything comes together. If you persist, then eventually you’ll have something close, if not better, than what you previously envisioned.

Step 4. Enjoy The Room

Sometimes in life, we forget to stop and smell the roses, maybe you’ll actually have roses in your bathroom. Really stop and appreciate what you created no matter your feelings about it. It’s work you put into creating something new. You have the power to change whatever you like, and you know it’s possible because you did it before!

What If You Want An Expert?

Well, if you don’t have the time, know-how, or desire to do those steps, then there are some short-cuts in this process. Maybe you’re just completely tired of the bathroom you have now and want something totally new and unique right now. Columbus Bath Design is a brilliant place if you’re looking for a professional who will help you create a gorgeous bathroom. They are experts that do this every day, so they are ready for your questions and any issues you may have.

Decorating Your Bathroom for Thanksgiving

by Columbus Bath Design |November 9, 2018 |1 Comments | Decoration | , , , , ,

With fall in full swing, it’s time to start decorating your home for the season if you haven’t already. Bathrooms are an area of the home that some people overlook in regards to decoration. Even if your bathroom is small, you can still incorporate festive decorations into your space. You can add a few simple touches or go for an all-out Thanksgiving theme in your bathroom. Here are our decorating tips to get ready for the season:

Hand Towels

One of the simplest ways to decorate your bathroom for Thanksgiving is seasonal towels and washcloths. You can purchase Thanksgiving-themed bathroom décor almost anywhere. Choose linens decorated with things like turkeys, pilgrims, leaves, and cornucopias. For a more subtle look, simply replace your current towels with new orange, yellow, and red ones to fit the color scheme of fall.

If your bathroom has a window, find new curtains that coordinate with your new towels and linens. This will ensure that your color scheme is cohesive and that everything goes well together.

Candles, Candles, Candles

Another great idea is to place seasonally-scented candles, such as pumpkin or spiced apple, in your bathroom. You can light them every day or just for special occasions or when guests are over. Smells and scents can remind people of holidays past and build a festive ambiance.  To take things a step further, invest in candles that crackle and make bonfire-like noises to give your bathroom a cozy feel.

If you don’t want to invest in candles or are looking for something a little more outside the box, incense is also a great way to give your space a comforting smell. To avoid flames entirely, invest in a seasonal plug-ing. This will provide consistent bursts of scent throughout the day and you won’t have to worry about blowing anything out before you leave.

Soaps and other Scents

Seasonal hand-soaps are another fun way to decorate your bathroom. Try to “shop local” when it comes to this part of decorating. Finding cute boutiques and small vendors near your home will ensure that your soaps are unique and hand-made, giving your bathroom a warm and welcoming feel. Add a decorative soap dish and make this a focal point of fall display for your bathroom.

For an added bonus, find a nice fall themed lotion to put next to your sink as well. This time of the year is the perfect storm for dry skin and cracked hands. Help your guests out with a nice, soothing lotion.

Lighting

The lighting in your bathroom can also be changed for the holiday. You can purchase a seasonal night light for a small touch. For a more bold change, you can swap out the light bulbs in your bathroom to a soft orange. You can also put up string lights around your bathroom mirror. Choose from orange lights or ones that are shaped like pumpkins or turkeys. Another lighting idea is to place lanterns with either real or electric candles in them. Place a string of fall leaves and small pumpkins and gourds around the base to make it more fall appropriate.

Pumpkins and Gourds

One of the absolute easiest ways to decorate any space for the Thanksgiving and fall season is to stack up on pumpkins and gourds. You can choose varying colors, shapes, and sizes and arrange them in a fun fall display. For an extra fun touch, tie orange and gold ribbons around their stems. Pumpkins and gourds are cheap decor and will give your space an authentic feel.

More Decoration Ideas

There are many other simple touches you can add to your bathroom to decorate for Thanksgiving. Swap out any wall hangings you have for wall art featuring fall leaves, turkeys, pumpkins, and other harvest-related items.

If you have enough shelf or counter space, you can choose any of these super simple DIY projects:

  •       Fill a vase or urn with dried or artificial flowers such as sunflowers or mums. You will want to stick with a red, yellow, orange, brown, or deep purple palette. You can include small cornstalks or even cattails to help add dimension to your arrangement.
  •       Fill a glass vase or other type of container with pinecones.
  •       Fill a basket with pumpkins, gourds, and small cornstalks.
  •       Hang a welcome sign on the outside of your bathroom door that has a Thanksgiving theme.
  •       Hang doorknob decorations on the outside or inside of your bathroom door. Some decorations have bells inside them for extra effect.

When it comes to decorating your home for the holidays, don’t forget about your bathroom! All of these ideas are quick and easy but can make your bathroom feel fun, cozy, and welcoming for all of your guests and loved ones. And as always, if you need help or tips with your bathroom accessories or are looking for a whole new remodel, don’t hesitate to contact the experts at Columbus Bath Design!

How to Decorate Your Bathroom for Fall

by Columbus Bath Design |September 21, 2018 |2 Comments | Decoration | , ,

There’s no better way to get into the festive fall spirit than by surrounding yourself with fall decorations. Incorporating pumpkin scents and autumn colors will give your home a feeling of warmth and comfort for the entire fall season. Follow our favorite decorating tips to spice up your bathroom for the fall season.

Linens and Curtains

One quick and easy way to transition your bathroom décor is to change your linens and curtains for the new season. When you begin to make your shift to the fall season, start with your curtains, linens, and bath rugs. After summer, trade those bright, beach colored towels, and curtains for more subdued tones. Popular colors for fall tend towards neutrals, but if you’d like to add splashes of color consider burnt orange, mustard yellow, medium to dark greens, and a deep purple. The new colors will instantly give your space a whole new feel.

Seasonal Fragrances

The ambiance of a room isn’t complete without a nice, seasonal scent. Stock up on pumpkin spice everything. Candles, soaps, incense, and air fresheners are all great ways to incorporate smell into your space. Scents like wood fire, oak, cedar, and sandalwood are all great places to start. For a sweeter smell, try pumpkin, chai, apple pie, and cinnamon.

Updated Fixtures

As you update your bathroom’s scents and linens, you might also realize it is a good time to update the room’s fixtures. You may want to install new faucets, sinks, or shower heads. Bronzed fixtures are not only perfect for the fall season but remain a timeless and classic look all year round.

Add Accessories

With the larger items now in place and the scent of fall in the air, you can take the final step and add the finishing touch of accessories to your bathroom. These are the minor details that really pull a room together. Perhaps you might like a basket on the back of the toilet. Craft pinecones or greenery add additional seasonal elements to unify the space.

Giving your bathroom a fall makeover will put you in the mood for the season and is a great way to make your home feel welcoming and festive. For decorating, remodeling, and all of your other bathroom needs call the experts at Columbus Bath Design.
